VIEW FACT SHEET

Purpose: To become a specialist in structural steelwork detailing. This course will allow a person to register as a structural steel detail draughtsperson and lay a foundation for future career advancement to supervisory and management qualifications within the sector.

A qualified learner will be able to:

Draught steelwork structures and use industry-standard software.

Structural Steelwork Draughting Course Structure: National Diploma in Structural Steelwork Detailing (NQF 5)

Admission Requirements:

Learner must have required Grade 12 Mathematics and EGD skills or completion of the MDDOP course and ideally must be
working within the SSD industry.
This candidate must understand and have experience in Shop Detailing, which are detailing of beams, columns, grids,
platforms and understand GA’s.

Note:

Our selection procedure consists of proof of the above qualifications/reference and an interview to confirm suitability, aptitude, and experience.

N4/N5 Knowledge Modules:

  • Communication
  • Mathematics
  • Connection design and draughting practice techniques for basic structural steelwork assemblies
  • Strength of materials
  • Regulations, codes and drawing office practice on structural steel detailing processes
  • Processes and sequences of the production of the detail drawings integrated with fabrication and site functions. Impact of these on time and cost of producing quality products within a contract
  • Piping arrangement Drawings, Section and Elevations
  • Bracing systems, mechanical properties and load bearing calculations are illustrated
  • Quality Control of fabrication assembly and erection of structural steelwork
  • Drawing layouts according to drawing office practice and setting out points are calculated.

Part-Time:

Every Saturday 

Duration:

First and Second Year – Lectures every Saturday

Third Year – Every Saturday. Practical in workplace (257 credits)

Basic Draughting Course Fees:

R 38 000.00 
R 7 000.00 deposit, and the balance payable in 10 equal installments.

Additional Costs (books, kits, etc):

Applicable Red, Yellow, Green and Blue books.
