Are you passionate about the built environment? Are you curious about what this dynamic field has to offer? Our courses in Architectural Technology prepare you to work with architects, designers and construction professionals, guiding them in creating structures using the most up-to-date technology.
But what does an Architectural Technologist actually do?
Architectural technologists are a fundamental element of any construction project. They recognise and resolve design issues before construction begins and work closely with planning and construction teams to ensure durability and sustainability.
Why should you study Architectural Technology?
1. It’s the future of the industry:
Architectural technologists will play an increasingly important role with more elaborate structures being designed over the next decade, such as the Sky Mile Tower in Japan and the Rise Tower in Mexico. Construction technology, safety measures and design become more complex as projects become more ambitious. Architectural technologists ensure everything is in place before construction starts. By doing this, huge mistakes can be prevented, and unnecessary construction costs can be saved.
2. It offers endless opportunities:
The role of an architectural technologist involves dealing with a wide range of people. Before construction begins, you will liaise with architects and work with the construction manager to resolve any potential design issues. As your experience grows, you will be able to handle bigger and more complex projects. Thus, you will acquire a wide range of experience in the built environment.
3. It gives you the freedom to work from anywhere:
Globally, new infrastructure is being constructed at a faster pace than ever before. As cities grow, they strive to develop the next best thing in order to attract tourists and create modern living environments. Studying architectural technology will allow you to work with passionate specialists to plan and construct developments. These may include structures such as stadiums, skyscrapers and hotels.
At African Academy, we offer the NQF5-NQF6 Architectural Technology National Certificate. The purpose of this course is to introduce the architectural profession and its role in the built environment on a broader scale. It aims to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and competencies necessary to practice as a “Candidate Architectural Draughtsperson”. Upon successfully completing the NQF 5 certificate, learners are encouraged to enrol in our NQF 6 Architectural Technology Diploma course.
